The Artist's Comments: The Los Angeles Times says of this painting, "The
Muni (Los Angeles Municipal Gallery) has the biggest show. It
was chosen by Connie Butler, an associate curator at the Museum
of Contemporary Art. Her choices broadcast an urge to be inclusive.
There's also a significant brace of punk-tinged work like Gordy
Grundy's "Asian Haze" an affectionate send up of the
Terry-and-the-Pirates past when hard drinking white guys saw Asian
women as dangerously sexy Dragon Ladies..." The painting
features a series of hidden visuals such as a couple kissing,
a Fu Manchu-like character and maps of the South China seas. It
is very entertaining and beautifully wrought. Artists note: This
piece is literally heavy with layer upon layer of thin color.
It is translucent.
Let's not forget: The internet is
a lousy way to look at art.
The actual Grundy is gorgeous.
